Chris Knott (Actuarial)

Having always had a love for Mathematics and problem-solving, I knew from an early age that the Actuarial profession was perfect for me. Whilst studying for my degree in Mathematics and Economics at the University of Sheffield, I was lucky enough to secure a summer internship placement with the Actuarial department in Aspen's London office. During my time with the team, I quickly came to realise that Aspen was a very exciting company to work for.

Being a fairly young company, both in terms of the company itself and much of the workforce, it provides a highly engaging and invigorating place to work, where employees are provided with both opportunities and challenges right from day one. The relatively small teams mean that every member has a vital role to play, and everyone is encouraged to push themselves to achieve the highest level of quality in their work.

Since joining Aspen as part of the 2007 graduate program, my experiences have continued to be nothing but positive. The support available within the team is excellent, and the study package is extremely competitive. Whilst expectations of graduates are fairly high, the attitude of fellow team members is always to be helpful and approachable, which makes for a rewarding working experience - especially when taking on unfamiliar tasks. It's not all about work though - Aspen also has a very strong social culture, with regular social, charitable and sporting events to get involved in. I for one have discovered cricketing talents I never knew I had!

I would not hesitate to recommend Aspen to anyone considering a career in the General Insurance industry.
