Savita Khemlani (IT)

After graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Software Engineering at the University of Brighton, my intention was to return to a warm country, especially having come from Spain. However, when hearing about graduate schemes (which are not very common in European countries despite them being remarkably valuable), I decided to extend my stay and experience London's working atmosphere.

I hadn't really thought of joining the insurance/re-insurance arena; in fact, due to the nature of IT, I left my options open until I found the right company. It was only at the Assessment Day that I was made aware of Aspen's career development and its people - which seemed to reflect very well their sense of contentment with work.

Being able to rotate within the subdivisions that form the IT department sparked my interest, particularly because many of the teams are reliant on each other.
I spent the first few months in the Application Support Team followed by the Testing Team, which is my current placement. So far I've had exposure to a variety of projects, assisted in user acceptance testing and provided support with applications related to underwriting systems - having also endeavoured to improve my knowledge about the insurance/re-insurance industry and how the different business segments coexist in the same company.

I am finding it fascinating to network with a wide range of people, who all seem to have a great deal of experience - an essential piece of equipment for any organization. Up to now, I have found it rewarding to work in a young company which knows how to grow quickly.

I am lucky to be working in a company with international coverage where I have developed a good range of transferable skills. I like to be motivated and learn something new everyday, whilst being able to share knowledge with other people. I respect the professionalism that characterizes Aspen and I believe that it gives a great opportunity to develop in a dynamic work environment.
