The Aspen Re Graduate Programme starts with an Induction Programme in our London office, introducing you to the insurance / reinsurance industry, our key business areas and business leaders, and providing you with the skills you require to ensure a successful start to your career. Beyond induction your development will be via on-the-job experience and further training programmes to support your career progression. You will also continue your studies and work towards a professional qualification. 

For all opportunities, applicants will need to have citizenship or the right to work in the country to which they are applying. We do not sponsor work permits.

We welcome applications from graduates with a 2.1 degree classification or above, or 3.0 grade point average or above (or international equivalent). For Actuarial you will also ideally have a Maths A Level. We recruit from a diverse range of degree disciplines; however, we will be looking for evidence of the following skills and abilities:

Actuarial

With opportunities to work within the Pricing, Reserving and Capital Modeling teams, the actuarial graduate role offers an excellent introduction to the various actuarial disciplines. You will work with all areas of the global business including the underwriters, claims adjusters and finance. You will need to be determined and disciplined in your studies and committed to completing your actuarial exams, with the help of a generous study support package.

Finance

As a Finance graduate you will have the opportunity to have a real job with real responsibilities right from the start. You will work within areas such as Financial Control, Credit Control & Accounting Operations.

To succeed in our Finance team you will have the ability to mix technical knowledge with common sense, and will also be committed to studying for professional qualifications including ACCA. Your graduate programme will be directly linked to your professional studies to ensure you receive the relevant work experience to support your studies.

Underwriting

As an underwriting graduate you will be working closely with a team of underwriters providing you with valuable on-the-job training and development whilst also studying for the professional qualification of either ACII or CPCU. Learning the technical underwriting skills under the supervision and mentoring of experienced underwriters, you will also start to build relationships with brokers and colleagues within the business, providing you with a great start to your underwriting career.

You will be resilient and confident in manner with the ability to build and maintain valuable business relationships both inside and outside of Aspen. You will have good attention to detail and a logical approach to your work, whilst being able to think creatively.

Risk

Effective risk management is fundamental to delivering consistent business performance, as it aims to minimize large unexpected losses and turn potential threats into opportunities. This is done through the following:

• Identification of risks inherent in the business
• Setting of risk appetites (maximum risks acceptable to key stakeholders)
• Assessment of the effectiveness of existing control and governance framework
• Monitoring and reporting of Aspen's risk profile against the approved risk appetite
• Providing risk solutions to the business.

Aspen is recognized externally for its strong risk management and is committed to maintaining and improving its risk management framework. As a member of our Risk team, you will be working with individuals from across the business, so strong communication and relationship management skills are essential. You will have good numerical skills, be resourceful and resilient, and have an analytical mind.

IT

Group IT is responsible for all IT-related services to the business, including the provision of all day to day services, ensuring data and systems are secure and accessible to employees, and effecting business change through project delivery. IT is an enabler for the whole business and provides end to end integrated solutions to support our underwriting process and all our finance and regulatory systems.

IT works closely with the rest of the business to determine requirements for technology solutions; it is therefore essential that you are a good team player, can communicate well and have strong interpersonal skills. You should also have a structured and organised approach to your work whilst being able to think creatively and bring new ideas to the team.

You will be expected to study for a professional qualification with the help of a generous study support package.

Claims

Our approach to handling and reserving claims shapes our reputation and underpins our financial stability.

The claims adjuster's role is to investigate, negotiate and settle insured losses. These can be first party claims for damage to insured property or third party claims where a policy holder has caused injury or damage to other people through negligence. For very large losses insurers often have their own form of insurance called reinsurance. Reinsurance limits the financial impact of large insurance claims that insurance companies receive from time to time.

At Aspen we provide both insurance and reinsurance protection and our claims department is called upon to deal with a wide range of type and size of insurance and reinsurance claims.
The work is extremely varied and our claims adjusters are involved in the investigation of claims circumstances and settlement. This can involve dealing with loss adjusters, forensic scientists, barristers, accountants, the medical profession and other experts. Much of this work is done in the office but claims adjusters are also required to attend external meetings, for example visiting the site of a loss, or attending meetings with legal advisors and attending court hearings. Also, claims adjusters meet with insurance/reinsurance brokers and clients around the world.
At Aspen we look for candidates with good interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, an enquiring mind and most importantly the ability to mix technical knowledge with common sense. There is a strong legal dimension to claims work and this makes it especially suitable for graduates with a Law degree.
We can offer an intensive training programme in handling claims on various classes of insurance and reinsurance and the opportunity to study for the professional qualifications of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
